Thirty years ago, most surgery was performed in hospitals. Long waits for an appointment were not uncommon and patients typically spent several days in the hospital. A group of Baton Rouge Orthopedic physicians saw an opportunity to establish a high-quality, cost-effective alternative to inpatient hospital care for orthopedic surgical services. Faced with frustrations like scheduling delays, limited operating room availability and other challenges, they believed that through self-governance and professional autonomy in the operation of the surgery center, their patients could be provided with better surgical care.
In the summer of 2006, Orthopedic Surgery Center opened its doors at 7301 Hennessy Boulevard with a state-of-the-art facility and equipment. Today, OSC serves more than 3000 surgical patients each year in the specialties of orthopedics, podiatry and pain management, and is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc.
